Pray for Beijing Shouwang Church (Week 7)
Dear brothers and sisters, peace!

On May 15th, Shouwang had her sixth Sunday outdoor worship service. On May 18th, Shouwang Church issued Announcement on May 15th Outdoor Worship Service, and reported on what happened on that day. As most believers were detained at home since Friday evening, and were not able to go out, only a few dozen people arrived at the planned location for outdoor worship on Sunday. Thirteen believers were taken away on Sunday morning, and were then sent to ten different local police stations. Different from what happened in the past, believers who were taken to police stations received a more gentle treatment from the police.

In the announcement, Shouwang points out that, “the spiritual warfare is not over yet, and the battlefield was switched to believers’ home…We rejoiced that we were considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we believe. And we thank God for giving us the opportunity to witness for the Lord before those who guard at our door.” Shouwang states, “We believe that God allows each of us to be trained in different ways during this difficult time for his church’s good, so that this church can be used by him.”

In the announcement, Shouwang continues to express their gratitude to churches in Beijing and in other places for supporting them with fervent prayers as well as in other forms during this difficult period. Shouwang especially mentioned that, “during this period of spiritual warfare, we feel greatly comforted and loved by being a member in Christ’s body as we see churches who do not agree with Shouwang on having outdoor service, put aside theological arguments for now, accept us, and bear with us in Christ’s love.”

At the end of the announcement, Shouwang stated again that only God can solve this crisis, “We need to fix our eyes on our Lord and look to him, for none of those who wait for him will be ashamed. We believe that, only he can make a way out for our church, leading us out of this difficult period.”

In the process of Shouwang’s event, we felt more than once that, if God does not reveal to us his love, mercy, and might acts, this crisis can hardly be solved. In the Bible, when God entrusts someone a mission, it is always a mission impossible for man. God entrusts man such a mission to reveal himself, his power, his wisdom, and his love to his people and to all humankind. Only through this all humankind can come to know him; only when God’s people and unbelievers see things which can only be done by God happening, they are able to know God! Seeing Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego went through the trial of fire, yet with no harm, King Nebuchadnezzar came to know God. And he even made a decree to all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth, “It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation.” (Daniel 4:2-3)

As the church of Christ, our core mission is not to claim for our own rights, but to best demonstrate the gospel of God to the world. When people do not see God’s work, they won’t be drawn to Christ we serve. If they see God’s work, they will be drawn to God and come to know the breadth and length and height and depth of God’s love! If we are willing to exalt Jesus Christ—not through our words, but through living out the life of Christ before the world—then they will be drawn to the life of Christ. When the things that can only be seen as God’s own work happening through God’s people, the world will be willing to know more about God.

As members who are praying for Shouwang Church, we are learning the lesson of faith. When God calls us to take part in the work that can only be done by him, we need to have faith. Without faith, it is impossible for a man to please God, and without faith, it is impossible for a church to please God.

Let us continue to pray for Shouwang Church. May God use the congregation in powerful ways, as they exalt Jesus Christ and live out the life of Christ, the grace and power of the gospel will be manifested to the world.

Let us continue to pray for the government. May God help the government officials, that they will see through the nature of the relationship between Church and State, and solve this crisis properly with wisdom. May God bring more government officials to know the gospel!

Let us continue to pray for churches. May God grow us in faith, so that we can take part in God size work.

Churches can continue to take part in praying:
From Monday to Saturday, you can choose one day to fast. Till now, many churches and fellowships throughout the country have committed to fast and pray. We believe that the prayers of churches will be heard by God!

We sincerely invite you to join us, to continue to lift up our hands to pray for Beijing ShouWang Church and all the churches, and for the government officials! May God have mercy on Beijing and bless Beijing!
