To Gao Zhisheng: Waiting for you to come home!

It’s late in the night. Our son and daughter long ago drifted off into Lala-land.  As the old saying goes,“The thoughts of the day are reflected in the dreams of the night.” Maybe in their dreams right now, they are happily reunited with their father whom they miss all the time….  I really hope they can have this kind of brief and happy dream every night.  In contrast, I am dreamless, sitting in front of this computer, going through your articles, watching videos of you and seeking your shadow.  I came across a twisted and mangled photo and an excruciating pain suddenly shot through my whole body and pierced me to the marrow.  Missing you is painful, yet I enjoy the pain of sharing this moment with you.

During the day, I have to take care of many practical things and I don’t have the time to think about you.  Each time you’ve been kidnapped, you’ve been held longer and longer, and each time the torture has gotten worse and worse.  After the kids go to sleep at night, I return to those times when we were together and it makes me wish the night could be a little longer.

I want you to know:  the first thing my father does each morning after getting out of bed is to hurry to the top of Hongguang Mountain and kowtow to every god he sees and burn incense.  That’s the only way he can get through the day in peace.  Brother No. 4 and Eldest Brother take turns going to Baiyun Mountain to draw lots for your safety.  Some friends recite mantras for you; others pray for you.  Those in this world who hate you and torture you are just a handful of extremely violent and wicked thugs. They are the exception; everyone else who knows your story supports you and wishes you well in their hearts.  With so many people and family members who love you, you have to make it through.
You have no idea how important you are to us.  Even if I and the children get to heaven, if you are not free, then we still cannot be happy….

Our son’s birthday is just a month away.  When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said: “I’d like to call daddy.”  How we want to hear your humorous and confident voice again.  That would be such a comfort to me and Gege [their teenage daughter].
You were illegally arrested on August 15, 2006.  Even according to their own law and the sentence of “three years of imprisonment with five years probation,” this August 14 is the last day of the probation period and should be the date when you regain freedom.  I am looking forward to this day and to hearing your voice and to our family being reunited.  The whole family looks forward to this day!!
I hope the stars in the sky can deliver my message and hope:  We are waiting for you to come back home!
