House Churches in Sichuan & Henan Provinces Attacked by Local Government, Police

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

China Aid Association
(Langzhong, Sichuan—May 30, 2012) A house church in southwestern China’s Sichuan province was raided on Tuesday by local Langzhong police, who said the church was holding illegal meetings and ordered the closure of the church.

Pastor Li Ming was holding a training class for church lay leaders when three police officers from the local Qili police station burst into the meeting at 10 a.m. Police from the Langzhong Economic Development Zone apprehended the landlord who had rented the meeting space to the church and intimidated him into not providing the space to the church any longer. He was released at 3 p.m.

On April 1 in Zhengzhou, Henan province, the deputy director of the religious affairs bureau for Guancheng district led a group of officials from the religious affairs bureau in raiding a worship service of the Nanguan House Church, led by Pastor Xiong Ma’ke (Mark), and apprehended more than 50 believers. At the time, the church members were holding a communion service. The officials also confiscated an offering box, which held more than 1000 yuan (US$157) in donations. The officials did not provide the legally required paperwork for confiscating the property.

ChinaAid is deeply disturbed by and condemns these recent persecution cases. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ fall richly upon these persecuted believers and their churches, to comfort and steady them and to guide them.
