(Shantou, Guangdong—Oct. 23, 2015) Zhongfu Tongxin Church was ousted from its meeting place after officials in China’s southern Guangdong province pressured the church’s landlord to stop renting the location and placed closed-circuit surveillance cameras at the door to a church member’s residence.

Zhongfu Tongxin Church’s gate was sealed by the Chenghai District Religious Affairs Bureau on Aug. 18, inciting Ms. Guo, the person in charge of the church, to go to the religious affairs bureau and petitions bureau to appeal. In response, the religious affairs bureau dispatched officers to remove the seal on the church’s gate. Ms. Guo says, “They did not have the qualifications to seal our church’s gate, so they removed the seal unconditionally… After sometime, they pushed the landlord to end the lease, and, with no compensation, he just asked us to leave the meeting place…”

Ms. Guo also noted that she was being monitored. “Even more appalling is that, after we left, the religious affairs bureau had the public security bureau place closed-circuit surveillance cameras at the door to my home … Right now, I haven’t done anything. I want to sue them.”
