ChinaAid’s Bob Fu to Testify at Congressional Hearing on China’s One-Child Policy and Forced Abortion Cases

China Aid Association
(Washington, DC—July 8, 2012) ChinaAid founder and president Bob Fu has been invited to join other human rights activists testifying on Monday at a Congressional hearing in response to the spate of cases that recently  captured headlines around the world of late-term forced abortions in China.

The hearing on “Continued Human Rights Attacks on Families in China” is to be held before the U. S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights.” The hearing is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., July 9 in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will review the case of Feng Jianmei, who was more than seven months pregnant when government officials in Shaanxi province forcibly aborted her unborn child on June 4 as part of their enforcement of China’s strict, compulsory one-child family planning policy.

Pastor Fu in his testimony will give details of other similar cases to show how China’s one-child policy has been destroying families and injuring and killing women and babies. He called on the Chinese people and the international community to work together to bring an immediate end to an evil policy that tramples on human rights.

“We at ChinaAid are willing to work with everyone in and outside of China to end this long and violent war against millions of women and children in China,” Pastor Fu says in his prepared remarks.

He suggested that the U.S. government “follow the example of the European Parliament in taking specific measures and steps to help China end this cruel one-child policy and the evil practices of forced abortion and forced sterilization.”

He listed specific measures the U.S. government could take, including putting the issue of human rights abuses in China’s family planning policy to the agenda of bilateral talks on human rights and the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, a strong joint Senate and House resolution supporting the abolishment of the one-child policy, a travel ban on those who carry out China’s forced abortion policies, and steps to ensure that no U.S. funds go to assist China’s family planning agencies.
