(Guangzhou, Guangdong—Dec. 23, 2017) As the Christians of Guangfu Church in China’s southern Guangdong province gathered for morning prayer on Dec. 8, local police interrupted the meeting and arrested two of them.
Zhou Guanjun and Li Jionjun, a husband and wife pair, were taken into custody and detained for half a day for attending a prayer meeting held by their church. The police asked them to write a document promising not to attend church services for the next two months, but they refused.
Guangfu Church is currently facing eviction from their landlord after the government pressured the landlord to do so. According to their pastor, they have found a new place and plan to move in on Dec. 26.
ChinaAid reports abuses, such as those experienced by the members of Guangfu Chruch, in order to stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law.
