(Zhengzhou, Henan—Jan. 4, 2017) During a coordinated attack on Christmas, authorities in China’s central Henan province detained three Christians on illegal publication charges and confiscated church materials.
On Dec. 23, the Erqi branch of the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau partnered with religious management departments to execute raids on three house churches. Hiring a locksmith, they broke into one of the churches and seized all of its books, including Gospel leaflets and religious publications. The church was empty when they arrived, but the officers decided to wait for Christians to arrive. Three showed up, and they were taken into custody at the scene on the charge of illegally publishing religious books.
Currently, the church is trying to get a lawyer.
Of the three house churches raided in the days before Christmas, two of them served as worship places for mainly residents of Wenzhou, Zhejiang.
