(Chengdu, Sichuan—Dec. 19, 2018) A prayer letter was published by the Western China Presbytery recently, urging Christians to pray for a serially persecuted church located in the country’s Sichuan province.
In the letter, the Presbytery encouraged Christians to offer their prayers for Early Rain Covenant Church, which is included in its network of congregations. The document begins by detailing the persecution suffered by the church and then applying biblical teaching to the situation. It can be read in full here.
On Dec. 9, Sichuan authorities conducted the mass arrest of around 100 of the church’s members, including its pastor, Wang Yi, and his wife, Jiang Rong. Some of the prisoners reported experiencing violence while in police custody, and several have been criminally detained on trumped-up charges. Last Sunday, officials arrested around 60 more people.
ChinaAid exposes abuses in order to stand in solidarity with the persecuted and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law. If you wish to partner with us in helping those persecuted by the Chinese government for their beliefs, please click here to make a charitable donation.
