(Taiyuan, Shanxi—Dec. 27, 2018) Government personnel in China’s northern Shanxi province banned a church on Dec. 16.
Cornerstone Church, located in the region’s Taiyuan city, supposedly conducted “religious activities in unauthorized venues” and is prohibited from continuing to hold services, according to an official notice.
In China, the government must approve all church locations, and the churches must then submit to official oversight and censorship. Churches that forego government approval in order to practice their faith freely are often shut down under similar allegations.
