(Washington, D.C.—March 5, 2018) Activists for religious freedom from multiple faith backgrounds announced the launch of a coalition aimed at urging U.S. officials to take further action against China for its human rights abuses.

The Coalition to Advance Religious Freedom in China (CARFC), consists of many religious organizations whose fellow practitioners have been persecuted in China for practicing their beliefs. These include Uyghur Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, Christians, and so on.

On Monday, the primary leaders of the coalition, including ChinaAid President Bob Fu, gathered at The Congressional Auditorium in the Capitol Visitor Center, along with supporters from the U.S. government, for a press conference regarding the CARFC’s launch. The speakers included Greg Mitchell, the chair of the International Religious Freedom Roundtable and coordinator of the CARFC, Congressmen Chris Smith and Jim McGovern, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, and retired Congressman Frank Wolf. Those in attendance also heard from key representatives of China’s persecuted communities, including Fu, who said, “We are united. We will not let the Communist Party win.”

As one of their initial actions, the CARFC is urging the Trump Administration to hold Chinese authorities accountable for their actions by imposing sanctions. Louisa Greve, the Director of External Affairs at the Uyghur Human Rights Project, also argued that the U.S. should pass bipartisan legislation to confront the abuses inflicted on Uyghurs, who are currently being imprisoned and abused in concentration camps.

ChinaAid exposes abuses in order to stand in solidarity with the persecuted and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law. If you wish to partner with us in helping those persecuted by the Chinese government for their beliefs, please click here to make a charitable donation.
