(Chengdu, Sichuan—Aug. 23, 2019) Numerous members of Early Rain Covenant Church revealed to the press that they were stripped naked and humiliated in detention centers.

During this mistreatment, the Christians said they were on camera and watched by police officers.

ChinaAid Founder and President, Bob Fu, posted about the incident on his Facebook account, saying, “Their dignity can only be clothed in Christ Jesus alone!”

Early Rain Covenant Church has been under intense scrutiny from the Chinese government in recent years. As a large, unregistered church in China’s Sichuan province, many of its members have been subjected to arbitrary detention and arrest. On Dec. 9, officials took around 100 members into police custody overnight, and the church’s pastor, Wang Yi, is still missing and faces a fabricated “inciting subversion of state power” charge.

ChinaAid exposes abuses in order to stand in solidarity with the persecuted and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law. If you wish to partner with us in helping those persecuted by the Chinese government, please click the button below to make a charitable donation.
