(Wenzhou, Zhejiang—April 25, 2019) Authorities in China’s coastal Zhejiang province are unjustly damaging an individual’s private property, according to the property owner.

Zhang Aizhong, who lives in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, stated in a letter that he acquired a large number of properties through his own work. Saying they were “renovating the old city,” government officials came and looted much of his real estate. Zhang reported that his mother is terrified on a day-to-day basis, and government officials often come to threaten them. Their power and water have been shut off.

After they demolished a home Zhang’s family has had for generations, the authorities said it was decrepit, and his current home often shakes severely and has cracks in the walls due to the work of an excavator next door. Zhang believes the government is trying to make his house collapse.

A translation of an official document pertaining to this case is forthcoming.
