(Beijing—June 19, 2019) A tribunal of independent attorneys and scholars concluded Monday that Chinese officials have been routinely incarcerating and harvesting the organs of adherents to a spiritual practice known as Falun Gong.
The discipline, which centers itself on the principles of forbearance, truthfulness, and compassion, gained popularity in China in the 1990s and became subject to intense persecution in 1999 under Chinese leader Jiang Zemin. Since then, many reports detailed surgeons taking the organs of live Falun Gong prisoners and using them for transplants. The tribunal, known as the China Tribunal and consisting of seven lawyers and other experts, said they had received satisfactory evidence that these types of executions are taking place, even though Beijing authorities deny it.
In light of this information, ChinaAid calls on the Chinese government to immediately cease all executions of prisoners via organ harvesting and adhere to human rights, religious freedom, and the rule of law when operating their country and legal system.
