(Washington, D.C.—Oct. 11, 2018) The China Coalition released a statement today praising the U.S. for recent actions taken against Chinese human rights abusers.
Earlier this week, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo enacted visa restrictions on key individuals involved in the repression of minorities.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Commerce banned 28 Chinese entities from working with U.S. businesses. Each has been linked to minority oppression.
These actions come after mounting evidence shows China has been mass jailing and torturing people groups. China says this stops terrorism. However, many of the prisoners have not received a terrorist charge, and others were charged for actions such as traveling abroad.
Many have disappeared.
“We warmly welcome the U.S. government’s actions this week in response to the Chinese government’s severe assaults on religious freedom in the Uyghur Region,” the statement reads. “These massive human rights violations shock the conscience, targeting Uyghurs, other Turkic Muslims, and all religious believers in the Region.”
The China Coalition is a multi-faith group formed to advance freedom of religion and thought in China.
