Updated: Christians imprisoned for collecting offering

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Pastor Hao Zhiwei had already been sentenced to 10 years in prison. She has not been sentenced yet but could face more than 10 years.

(Wuhan, Hubei—Jan. 8, 2020) Hubei authorities have imprisoned three Christian women for “collecting offering.”

One of the women, Pastor Hao Zhiwei, could face more than 10 years in prison.

The other two are Hong Ying and Wan Yuanxiang. All three have been charged with fraud because their church took offerings. Officials accused the church of being illegal and its clergy of receiving illegal ordination.

More information is forthcoming.
