American pensions to fund security risk, Trump letter warns

(Washington, D.C.—April 26, 2020) The Committee on the Present Danger: China (CPDC) released a letter to President Trump today. In it, the president was urged not to permit the funneling of money into organizations that put national security at risk.

The letter, of which ChinaAid is a signatory, opened by applauding Trump for holding the Chinese government accountable for COVID-19. It said, “ … we believe nothing should be done to cause the Chinese government to believe that accountability can be avoided for the global crisis it has perpetrated through sustained deception, lack of transparency and malfeasance. Under no circumstances should we reward the CCP for such unconscionable behavior.”

However, it continued to say that the Federal Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) risks muddling that message. The board has planned to invest billions of dollars of U.S. government employees’ pensions into Chinese companies that violate American safety and values.

The companies include: AviChina Industry & Technology Ltd., Hikvision Digital Technology, China Industry Shipbuilding Group, Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment, China Unicom, China Mobile Ltd., China Communications Construction Company, and China Telecom Corporation. These organizations have each uniquely contributed to security threats, with weapon creation, human rights violations, and espionage having been just a few of the accusations.

Appalled that government employees would be forced to give portions of their retirement savings to organizations that actively put Americans at risk, military leaders want Trump to prevent this from happening, something he has yet to do.

The CPDC was founded with the mission to provide average American citizens and lawmakers with information about threats the world faces from the Chinese Communist Party.
