(Washington, D.C.—July 1, 2020) The International Religious Freedom Roundtable (IRFR) issued a letter to President Trump regarding Hong Kong today.

The IRFR, a multi-faith group, released the letter the day after Beijing implemented Hong Kong’s National l Security Law. The new law positions China in authority over Hong Kong judicial system in cases of national security. National security-related charges are often given to religious people and activists in mainland China.

In light of Hong Kong’s eroding freedoms, the IRFR asked Trump to penalize 20 Chinese military-tied companies that do business in the U.S.

“By swiftly shutting down their operations inside the United States,” the letter read, “and terminating their access to our capital markets, (Trump) can simultaneously advance our national

security interests and deliver a strong response to the (Chinese Communist Party) suppression of Hong Kong.”

The letter can be read in full here
