(Beijing, Hebei Province—Nov. 30, 2020) Taiwan News reports that on November 25, as China's President Xi Jinping praised the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for training soldiers under "real” combat conditions, he stressed that to win wars, Chinese soldiers must not fear death. The next day, on November 26, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defense warned that the PLA should prepare for a "head-on attack" against Taiwan if a "serious situation occurs."
- enhance the sense of hardship,
- strengthen the mission responsibility, and
- accelerate the transformation and upgrading of military training.
On November 26, Ren Guoqiang, a spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, addressed the looming, potential "serious situation" with Taiwan, stating that as President Tsai Ing-wen seeks U.S. support for Taiwan—China will oppose her.
National rejuvenation and national unification are the general trends. If you obey the righteousness and will of the people, you will prosper, if you resist, you will perish. We will never allow anyone or any force to invade and divide the sacred territory of our motherland.
MiGuoqiang warned that when a "serious situation" occurs, the PLA will launch a head-on attack and resolutely defend China's national sovereignty as well as its territorial integrity.
As President Xi stressed, China plans to “maintain an indomitable fighting spirit—"not fearing hardship [n]or death." Consequently, the PLA must train soldiers in actual combat situations.
