(Midland, Texas—June 02, 2021) Today, the Wall Street Journal published “A Christian Congregation Fled Xi Jinping’s China, but Escaping Control Had a Price.” This article follows the exodus of persecuted Chinese Brothers and Sisters who fled to Jeju, a South Korean island, in hopes of gaining asylum. Instead of finding a place of refuge, they have faced harassment and ongoing threats of repatriation to China.

Regarding this Modern-day ‘Mayflower’ Exodus, Reverend Bob Fu, PhD., ChinaAid president and close friend of the Church, said:

The emergent exile of the entire congregation of the Shenzhen Shengdao Presbyterian Church further confirms the increasing, iron-handed impact of religious persecution in Communist China. Credible sources confirm that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials have constantly targeted and threatened Church members [including 32 children]. When Church representatives applied for asylum protection from the South Korean government officials promptly rejected them without any credible reason.

We appeal to the Biden Administration to immediately work with allies in Asia:

    • to ensure the congregation’s safety from repatriation, and

    • to resettle this credibly persecuted church members into the US as refugees.

ChinaAid asks for [urgently needed] prayer for this Modern-day "Mayflower" [Chinese Church] Exodus.

Hear me when I call,
O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and
hear my prayer.
