(Washington, D.C.—July 25, 2021) During the July 13–15 International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit held in Washington, D.C., Enoch Li,* Pastor Yang Hua’s son, shared his story [includes Congressman Frank Wolf’s introductory remarks]. Brother Enoch and his family (especially his dad) suffered several serious aspects of religious freedom persecution from Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities.

CCP officials sentenced Pastor Yang, pastor of Livingston church in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, to serve two years in prison because he refused to "work with" the CCP. They also confiscated the church building. "After authorities released my dad from prison," Brother Enoch said, "CCP officials monitored and followed him 24/ 7. At times, as many as eight monitors stood outside our front door. Several threatened my dad that if he did not work with the CCP, they would hire people to go to my school and beat me up, or they would block me from attending college.

"As my parents needed to find a way out, my dad contacted Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid. With his help, through many connections, I eventually escaped to Hong Kong, and ultimately landed in Chicago."

In his testimony, Brother Enoch asks:

Please stay focused on the issues around religious freedom in China, and that people there will be able to contain their rights to practice their religions as citizens in the United States are able to...
