(Washington, D.C.—July 13, 2021) During the Lantos Human Rights Commission’s “State of Religious Freedom Around the Globe” July 13 conference, Gulzira Auelkhan, a survivor of China’s concentration camps, testifies about her horrific experiences. She credits ChinaAid for helping facilitate her family’s ensuring escape to freedom in the United States.
I rejected the money because what I long for is freedom. When I returned to Kazakhstan, I wanted to let others know what happened because I am not the only one who has been detained in the concentration camp. Many people like me have been [and still are] suffering. We all need money, but if I take the money [and remain silent], I will lose freedom.
In China’s reeducation camps, CCP guards marked Ms. Gulzira, and her time with extreme surveillance, emotional abuse, and physical beatings.
