(Washington, D.C.—July 13, 2021) During the Lantos Human Rights Commission’s “State of Religious Freedom Around the Globe” July 13 conference, Gulzira Auelkhan, a survivor of China’s concentration camps, testifies about her horrific experiences. She credits ChinaAid for helping facilitate her family’s ensuring escape to freedom in the United States.

In her testimony, Ms. Gulzira recounts that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Yining County secretary claimed the CCP would give her 250,000 yuan [38,830 USD] if she would remain silent and never speak the things she saw and witnessed in China’s concentration camps, Ms. Gulzira said:

I rejected the money because what I long for is freedom. When I returned to Kazakhstan, I wanted to let others know what happened because I am not the only one who has been detained in the concentration camp. Many people like me have been [and still are] suffering. We all need money, but if I take the money [and remain silent], I will lose freedom.

In China’s reeducation camps, CCP guards marked Ms. Gulzira, and her time with extreme surveillance, emotional abuse, and physical beatings.

He has crushed my life to the ground;
 He has made me dwell in darkness,
Like those who have long been dead.
