(Beijing—Nov. 19, 2015) On Nov. 1, a WeChat user posted the following images and text, which notes that Beijing’s Shouwang Church held their first outdoor worship service six years ago on that date in a park. Shouwang Church has faced frequent persecution.

After repeatedly being forced out of rented gathering places by landlords whom the government had threatened, Shouwang Church purchased land and hired a company to construct a building. However, in late 2009, while the building was still under construction, Beijing authorities pressured the government into selling the unfinished property out from under the church. It was then that Shouwang Church made the decision to meet outdoors.

China Aid works to expose instances of persecution and religious freedom abuse, such as those faced by the Shouwang Church and encourages the abused in cases like these through financial support. If you would like to show your support, please consider making a contribution here.

Today in Christian history: On Nov. 1, 2009, Shouwang Church held their first outdoor worship service outside the east gate of Haidian Park.

“Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’ But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. … From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.” (Psalm 3:2-3, 8)
